Course and Maintaining Factors of Eating Disorder
Han Sung-Hee

Abstract
There are many factors that contribute to the maintenance fo illness anorexia and bulimia nervosa patients. Self starvation and the consequent undernutrition set up a vicious cycle of emotional upset and behavioral disturbances. Physical complications must taken into account in the management of patients with eating disorders. They require attention not only in their own right but also because they may contribute to underlying processes perpetuating the disorder. Psychological processes including low self-esteem,¢¥ fostered sexist community attitudes, their susceptibility to influence of media, the advantages offered by an invalid role, may inhibit recovery from their illness. Eating disorders can be best understood when construed in terms of relationships with others. Families of eating disorder seem to lead to fixed pattern of interaction around it. Disturbed social functioning also act to maintain the eating disorder. The amount and quality of social support has been found to be one of the factors predicting outcome.
